When Josie & Kim started planning their North Lake Tahoe elopement, they imagined a relaxed, heartfelt day with just their people — and that’s exactly what it became. But like a lot of Tahoe wedding days, we had to roll with some last-minute changes.
Originally, they planned to exchange vows overlooking Donner Lake — a jaw-dropping spot I still dream about photographing one day. But we got word that a Rivian commercial shoot was causing intermittent road closures on the highway we needed to access. We couldn’t guarantee parking or timing, and none of us wanted that stress hanging over such a meaningful moment.
So instead, we pivoted to a quiet, no-hike location in North Lake Tahoe — a hidden gem with forested trails and a panoramic lake view. It turned out to be exactly what the day needed.
(P.S. this spot would be GORG at sunrise!!)

When Plans Shift, Magic Happens
That flexibility ended up being the best decision. It allowed us to create space for a moment that felt completely theirs. Before the ceremony, Josie & Kim shared private vows — just the two of them — and it was one of the most tender, heartfelt parts of the day.
Even though they chose to elope, it was still a celebration with intention. About 15 of their closest friends and family were present, with Josie’s sister officiating and her mom designing the florals. Kim’s a bit on the shy side, so keeping the day small helped preserve that safe, grounded energy.
When you’re planning a Lake Tahoe elopement, having a little wiggle room in your plan is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Weather, traffic, crowds — things shift quickly here. But with the right photographer (hi👋), those changes can actually lead to more meaningful moments.
