You booked your Lake Tahoe wedding venue. Amazing. Now where are 30, 60, maybe 100+ of your favorite people supposed to hang out the night before?

There are a LOT of restaurants and event spaces around Tahoe, so this isn’t meant to be a directory of every possible option. These are the Lake Tahoe rehearsal dinner and welcome party spots that immediately come to mind for me. And as a local wedding photographer, I spend a whole lot of time working around the lake.

Some are restaurants where dinner and drinks are basically handled for you. Some are event spaces that give you more freedom to build your own thing. And yes, you can even put everyone on a boat.

My biggest advice before you fall in love with one? Start with the side of the lake where your guests are staying. A place that’s technically only 15 miles from your wedding venue can be a VERY different drive around Tahoe depending on the time of year, traffic and where exactly you’re going.

With that covered, here are the spots I’d start with.

Where can you host a rehearsal dinner or welcome party in North Lake Tahoe?

Gar Woods Grill & Pier — Carnelian Bay

If being right on Lake Tahoe is the priority, Gar Woods is one of the first places I’d look. You also don’t have to bring in your own caterer, tables, chairs & everything else that comes with a blank event space.

It’s directly on the water in Carnelian Bay, with private rooms upstairs and balconies overlooking the lake. Gar Woods currently accommodates smaller groups in individual private rooms or up to 160 when its upstairs rooms are combined. Larger events can also reserve the restaurant and deck, depending on the date and weather.

This would be high on my list for a more traditional rehearsal dinner or welcome party with dinner, drinks & those classic Lake Tahoe views.

Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge — Tahoe City

Sunnyside is another one I’d look at if lakefront is high on the priority list, especially if you’re getting married around Tahoe City, Homewood or the West Shore.

You get the restaurant piece rather than having to build an event from scratch, plus Sunnyside has lodging onsite. That combination can make a LOT of sense for a destination wedding where you’re already asking people to travel and navigate Tahoe for the weekend.

Alibi Ale Works — Incline Village

If you don’t want your welcome party to basically become a second wedding reception, Alibi is such a good option.

It’s much more casual: brewery, food, drinks, indoor/outdoor space & room for people to actually mingle. Their Incline Public House hosts private events and works especially well for a come grab a beer, meet everyone & hang out before tomorrow kind of night.

I particularly like something like this if your actual wedding is going to be on the more formal side. Night one doesn’t have to compete with it.

Za’s Lakefront — Tahoe City

Za’s gives you another restaurant option right on the water in Tahoe City. They also have several different spaces available for private events.

I’d look here if you want something lakefront and hosted without turning the welcome party into a giant formal production. It also makes a ton of logistical sense if your wedding weekend is already centered around Tahoe City.

Aspen Grove — Incline Village

Aspen Grove is a completely different category from Gar Woods or Sunnyside. That’s exactly why I wanted it on this list.

It’s an outdoor event venue in Incline Village surrounded by trees, with permanent picnic tables already onsite. Translation: you can keep things significantly more casual without suddenly needing to rent seating for everyone.

One important thing to know while you’re planning: Aspen Grove currently requires its own food and beverage services. They don’t allow outside catering.

But if you want a lower-key welcome event where everyone can eat, hang out & enjoy being outside in Tahoe, I’d absolutely look into it.

North Tahoe Event Center — Kings Beach

North Tahoe Event Center is for the couple who wants more of an actual event space than a restaurant reservation.

It’s right on the water in Kings Beach and hosts everything from weddings to rehearsal dinners, corporate events & other private gatherings. There are indoor and outdoor options. Tables, chairs & some of the event basics are already available through the venue too.

You have more flexibility here than you would with a private dining room. If you want to create your own welcome party with your planner & caterer, NTEC is a great place to start.

Martis Camp Beach Shack — Kings Beach

Putting this one on the list with a BIG asterisk: Martis Camp members and their guests only.

Martis Camp has its own private lakefront Beach Club in Kings Beach with beach and lawn space, food, drinks & lake access. It is not somewhere any couple planning a Tahoe wedding can simply call and reserve.

BUT if you or your family are Martis Camp members? Potentially a killer welcome-party option and absolutely worth asking the club about.

Where can you host a rehearsal dinner or welcome party in South Lake Tahoe?

Riva Grill — South Lake Tahoe

Think of Riva as South Lake’s answer to Gar Woods.

They’re actually sister restaurants, and both are built to handle private events. Riva is directly on the lake at Ski Run Marina and can currently accommodate up to 200 guests upstairs. Larger restaurant and deck buyouts may also be possible depending on the event.

If you’ve got a bigger guest list and want the lakefront restaurant experience, this is one of the first South Lake options I’d look at.

South of North Brewing Company — South Lake Tahoe

For something much more casual, South of North is one of my favorite directions to go.

Beer, outdoor space, picnic tables, fire pits — it already lends itself to the kind of welcome party where people can wander in, grab a drink and actually talk to each other.

This is the kind of place I’d look at if you’re inviting a larger portion of your wedding guest list the night before but don’t necessarily want to host a formal plated rehearsal dinner.

The Hangar — South Lake Tahoe

The Hangar is another one I’d put in the casual welcome-party category.

If your vision is less everyone sit down for dinner at 6:30 and more come have a beer & hang out with us, this is the lane I’d be looking in.

I’d contact them directly about current private-event options and what makes sense for your guest count. Those offerings can change.

The Idle Hour — South Lake Tahoe

Want wine instead of beer? Idle Hour.

This is a much more intimate lakefront option, and they specifically host rehearsal dinners and welcome parties. It’s especially good if you’re envisioning something smaller where the setting itself is doing a lot of the work rather than bringing in a ton of decor and production.

The Landing Lake Tahoe Resort & Spa — South Lake Tahoe

The Landing is one I’d look at for a smaller, more traditional rehearsal dinner or a more elevated welcome event.

They have multiple private-event options, including smaller dining spaces, so this makes more sense to me for the couple who wants dinner with our closest people rather than 100 wedding guests are coming over for beers.

It’s also a hotel, which again can make wedding-weekend logistics easier if you or your guests are already staying nearby.

Chart House — Stateline

Chart House is another solid option if you want a private dining experience rather than creating an event from scratch.

They offer multiple private and semi-private spaces, so there’s flexibility for different guest counts. You could host immediate family and your wedding party or extend the invite to a much larger group.

And because it’s in Stateline, I’d especially consider it if your guests are staying around Heavenly or the casino corridor. Same goes for anyone staying on the Nevada side of South Lake.

Can you have your Lake Tahoe welcome party ON the lake?

YES.

And if a bunch of your guests are traveling to Tahoe for the first time, this is probably one of the coolest ways you could welcome them.

Zephyr Cove Resort offers private Lake Tahoe cruises, including the M.S. Dixie II for much larger groups and Tahoe Paradise for smaller private events.

Instead of everyone looking at Lake Tahoe from a restaurant, you’re putting them on it.

This obviously comes with another layer of logistics — departure time, guest transportation, making VERY sure nobody misses the boat — but for the right wedding weekend? Such a fun option.

Before you book another venue, ask your wedding venue

This gets overlooked.

If you’ve already booked your Lake Tahoe wedding venue, ask what else you can host there. You may not need to start hunting for an entirely separate place.

Some venues offer wedding-weekend collections, additional event rentals or options to host something onsite the day before. That can mean fewer rentals, fewer transportation logistics & one less location for your guests to figure out.

It also doesn’t mean your welcome party has to look like Wedding Day Part One. You can completely change the setup, food, dress code & overall plan for the night before.

How do you choose the right Lake Tahoe rehearsal dinner or welcome party spot?

Start with logistics before aesthetics.

Where are most of your guests staying? How many people are actually invited? Do you want everyone sitting down for dinner, or would you rather they grab food & mingle?

Then think about what you want to handle. Do you want a restaurant to take care of most of it, or are you okay bringing in more vendors? And how much of your wedding budget do you actually want to put toward night one?

I’d also think about what you’re already asking of your guests. Maybe they’re flying into Reno, renting a car, driving to North Lake & staying in Tahoe City. I probably wouldn’t make them drive all the way to South Lake for a welcome drink because you found a restaurant on Instagram.

Tahoe looks small on a map. Wedding-weekend logistics around it are another story.

Figure out what you want the night to actually look like first. Then pick the spot that makes that easiest.
