The thing about maternity photoshoots? They are always special. But these rainy San Jose Maternity photos?! I still have full-body chills.

I will say that sometimes, the unexpected happens, and that’s precisely what occurred during Laura and Kyle’s maternity session. In the midst of an atmospheric river, we ventured into the pouring rain to create epic memories.

Backstory with Laura + Kyle

You might remember Laura and Kyle from their unforgettable Lake Tahoe elopement in 2020. If not, you can check out the stunning photos on my Instagram HERE.

Their love story had already touched my heart, and when they reached out for a maternity session, I couldn’t be more thrilled. The catch? I was on my way to Mexico, but a layover in San Jose brought us together.

Embracing Mother Nature

As fate would have it, on the one afternoon we planned our maternity shoot, San Jose decided to pour rain like never before.

I arrived, they arrived, and we were all soaking wet from head to toe.

But, hey, the show must go on, right?

Whitney, a dear friend and my travel companion came to our rescue with camera-specific rain jackets and clear bubble umbrellas. With determination in our hearts, we embraced the rain and the mud, ready to create magic in just 20 minutes.

Epic Moments

Laura and Kyle’s dedication to making this shoot work was truly inspiring.

Their positive energy and adventurous spirit shone through as we navigated the rainy landscape. We explored the green California hills, a rare sight due to the state’s ongoing drought.

Laura’s pink dress added a pop of color, a perfect choice since they were expecting a baby girl.

Rain or shine, we played music on my phone’s speaker, tripped through the mud, and laughed through the raindrops.

Keeping the Photos Coming

Luckily, the fun isn’t stopping here!

Laura and Kyle are planning to book me for a photoshoot later next spring or summer when I’m back in the Bay area. I can’t wait to capture more beautiful moments for this incredible couple.

Laura and Kyle’s rainy maternity photoshoot was an unexpected adventure filled with laughter, love, and a whole lot of rain. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing couples who are willing to embrace whatever comes their way.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.
